The nearest Kruger gate is Orpen, situated about 40 minutes from the Taaibos Bush Lodge. From Orpen it is a one hour drive to Satara restcamp.
How can we get in Hoedspruit from Johannesburg?
You can choose to go by car, shuttle or plane. The drive from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit is about 5/5,5 hours long by car. We don’t recommend driving in the dark. Second option is a bus-shuttle that takes about the same time. There are daily shuttles between Johannesburg and Hoedspruit, with multiple stops. The quickest way though is by plane. Airlink and CemAir offer daily flights from OR Tambo airport to Eastgate airport in Hoedspruit. A flight is only 35/40 minutes and can be really scenic, weather depending, since you fly over the Blyde Canyon, the mountains and the bush. How far is Taaibos Bush Lodge from the airport in Hoedspruit?
Eastgate Airport is located about 15 minutes from the Taaibos Bush Lodge.
Can you pick us up at the airport?
We offer free transfers from Eastgate Airport to the Taaibos Bush Lodge to guests that stay for a minimum of 3 nights. If you stay with us for a shorter period we can also arrange a transfer for you, but this will then be charged. Contact us if you need assistance or a transfer.
Can I rent a car in Hoedspruit?
Yes, there are multiple companies that offer rentals. You can for instance book a car through booking.com or rentalcars.com. Note: not all rentalcompanies have offices at the airport in Hoedspruit.

Before explaining the situation, know that we got you covered at the Taaibos Bush Lodge with our solar installation. Then about the issue of loadshedding. For the last decade, South Africa has a lot of problems with electricity. That is why a system was put into place to ‘shed loads’. Depending of the current electricity need and generating capacity, electricity is turned off in a certain region during a certain time. This goes according to a schedule that is used in the whole country. There is an app you can download to keep track of loadshedding. Taaibos Bush Lodge has backup power to make sure that you can still use all your essentials during loadshedding so no need to worry.
What is the malaria situation in Hoedspruit?
Hoedspruit is a low risk Malaria region, but it is always good to keep yourself informed. Ask your doctor or travelclinic about this subject. In general; in the dry season (March-December) the risk is the lowest.
