Close to the Taaibos Bush Lodge you will find The Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre. The centre focuses on the rehabilitation of animals (for instance rhino’s, cheetahs, wild dog, caracal and genet) and breeding of endangered species like cheetah’s. Whether an animal is captive bred, brought to the centre as a problem animal (that has killed or has the potential to kill livestock) or brought by nature conservation authorities after being found without a permit and in unsuitable conditions, the goal is to re-establish it in the wild in its natural habitat.

Want to visit HESC? The two-hour guided tour gives an overview of HESC’s conservation programmes and a close-up of the various animals that are being taking of in the centre. Seeing cheetahs and rhinos is always a highlight off course. Equally popular is the Vulture Restaurant where the vultures descend in their hundreds when food is put out for them. You’ll also see wild dogs, leopard, sable antelope and our ground hornbill.
